All I know is that the numbers on the gas pumps are the years hun... couldn't tell ya much more then that.
those numbers are the ''octane'' level..the ''octane'' is the anti-knock level in fuel oil...the higher the ''octane'' the better the gas...be careful..some vehicles cant handle all octane levels...

As crude oil price goes up, will the price per share of XOM, BP,CVX go down?

Depends on their refining margins. If they cant raise the price on their refined products that will squeeze their refining margins and stock prices could go down.As crude oil price goes up, will the price per share of XOM, BP,CVX go down?
I own MRO and am surprised at how depressed the stock price is despite this incredible run up in the price of crude. As a previous poster alludes to a lot of that has to do with refining margins. I also believe the impact of an Obama administration is finding it's way into the price of oil stocks. He has oil companies clearly in his sites as companies to screw over and I believe many of his policies will plunge us into a deep recession ala Jimmy Carter which will also hurt the oil companies. As crude oil price goes up, will the price per share of XOM, BP,CVX go down?
Look for companies that have the least exposure to the refining business. Theoretically their stock prices should go up, since stock prices are puportedly based on the value of future earnings.

Does anyone else here think that bp shut down the oil pipeline now as an excuse to raise oil prices?

Definitely. In a matter of 2 hrs. price of gas went up $1.10.Does anyone else here think that bp shut down the oil pipeline now as an excuse to raise oil prices?
Yes, it is actually unbelievable to think about, to what lengths these people will go to, to steal our money. Apparently they are getting away with it, because we are manipulated by their lies.Does anyone else here think that bp shut down the oil pipeline now as an excuse to raise oil prices?
Check Yahoo news for the story. It has a picture of the corrosion of the pipeline. It is a piping integrity issue. It had to be done before a large failure.

    TS: Get professional help
Yeah, it crossed my mind. Schools about to start and all those buses and cars will be hitting the road.
The repairs may be valid, but One has to question the timing. Things aren't always what they seem.
Yes I think they are using this as an excuse to raise gas prices and take a tax loss in the future!@
The only reason the gas prices are so high is because of money. People have money, they are willing to spend it on gas, the people that own gas companies are willing to make the money, investors are willing to pay more for gas futures, and everybody is happy, right???

    Well, obviously, no.

See it all started when oil futures went on the open market. Now instead of government controlling the oil prices, now investors' greedy hands are controlling them. The price of oil per barrel is as high as ever, $77 or so. Also, when there is news about some oil shortage, most currently the BP pipeline repairs, these same investors see opportunity and the oil futures shoot up again.

Now, high prices of crude oil translates to high prices for oil refineries. This translates to higher prices for gas companies (not as high as we are paying), which means high prices at the pump. But it seems nobody cares because people still buy gas. There are just as many SUV's, full sized trucks, people taking driving vacations, people driving to recreation (beach, parks, amusment parks, malls) as ever. It's supply and demand. People are using the gas, which everything after going to work, the store, and church is a luxury, and the gas companies are able to charge more for it.

It really isnt that we need help from the government. We need help from ourselves. We dont go out and spend $100 once a week on a steak from Ruth Chris because it is frivolous, yet we complain that $100 a week for gas is too much while we are driving all over town trying to find somewhere else to eat.
    yes george w loves it
This oil thing is BIG business and scams and smarties.

I told my friends that the Arabs would fight no more international war when the US invaded Iraq. I told them that the Arabs would fight with their greatest weapon 'OIL'. Just let the price run. And so it did.

Watch the TRICKERY: The Iranians told Hezbollah to kidnap the Israeli Soldiers to take world focus off their nuclear development. The time was right since Syria had already left Hezbollah in good defensive position - underground bunker, missiles like dirt and much greater that they have used already. (Israel found out that they would lose too much now that is why they withdrew. Oil price not affected much with this crisis because that was not the aim. So to get oil price to move up comes the bp shut down of oil pipeline price sour.

To take world focus off the middle east problem and the sad state that Israel has left Lebanon and rising oil price came the terrorist plot and the airport crack down.

The world is like a puppet show with five puppeteers - China, USA, Israel, Iran and Russia.

    ';DRILL FOR MORE OIL SO I DON'T HAVE TO PAY THREE AND A HALF BUCKS A GALLON!';

?Those BP ';what should an oil company do'; commercials?
Well since the current $1 increase has nothing to do with the price of crude, you should be screaming, ';Stop putting ethanol in my gas and build more refineries.';Those BP ';what should an oil company do'; commercials?
Actually I find myself wondering when they are going to accept the fact that the oil reserves will only last 10 more years and start investing A LOT more in renewable energy, like hydrogen to power vehicles. But then they wouldn't be able to rape the consumer anymore by indiscriminately hiking up the cost of oil even when they are still paying the same amount for it that they were a few years ago.
Actually I would like to see gas hit 5 to 8 dollars a gal. to get all you @ss wipes off the road.

No, it can't be there are laws to control this as anywhere. No.

BP Makes ';Giant'; Oil Find in Gulf of Mexico?

    http://finance.yahoo.com/news/article/10鈥?/a>

Doesn't this sound like great news, it could help us achieve energy independence and keep the price of oil down? Possibly 3 billion barrels of oil in one spot.BP Makes ';Giant'; Oil Find in Gulf of Mexico?
This is all related to subsalt formations. The Gulf of mexico has huge sheets of salt. Traditionally, we've never been able to ';see'; through salt because salt behaves a little like a liquid so sound waves get distorted when going through salt. In the past, we just assumed that nothing was down there because we couldn't see anything but one day, they decided to just drill anyways and they hit oil. Now we realize that just because we don't see it doesn't mean it isn't there.

Efforts are being made with more and more computers, with sound and receiver sources that are very far apart to try and see under the sheets from the sides (we're talking about trying to look under the salt sheets in the Gulf of Mexico from the coast of Africa) and just about anything we can think of to look through the salt (generally we call it reverse time migration which basically means more thorough than we've done so far).

Meanwhile, the estimates of the oil reserves that's under the sheets vary incredibly. It is possible for huge oil reserves to be found under the sheets but it's also likely that the estimates are artificially inflated in order to attract investment.

Such sheets exist in a lot of coastal areas such as the ';find'; off the coast of Rio de Janeiro and the ';find'; off the east coast of Canada, both of which have been estimated to be larger than the oil fields of the middle east. All we really know is that there is oil that we hadn't found before.BP Makes ';Giant'; Oil Find in Gulf of Mexico?
It is good news, but the find is not sufficient to achieve energy independence and here is why:

    1) It is uncertain if current technology has the capability to reach the depth of the find;

    2) Current crude oil prices are too low to offset the cost to develop the field;

    3) It is estimated that the field will yield 300,000 barrels a day, which is only about 1.5% of the United States' daily consumption. At a 300,000 barrel a day production rate the field will at best have a 27-year life expectancy, which is not very long;

    4) It may take upwards to 10-years before the field is in production.

Is great news? Absolutely hydrocarbon based energy will be around for many more years to come, even with the shift to alternative energy sources.

However, in a mean time we must aggressively pursue the reduction of energy consumption regardless of whether that energy source is hydrocarbon based or not.
I think it's horrible news. It will just prolong our broken way of life, as well as contribute to further global warming. If we did something with the energy aside from stuff our collective craws with fatty foods in our gas-slurping SUV's on our fifth trip to Wal-Mart for oversized bags of Cheez-Doodles and (ironically) Diet Soda, I might be happy.

If we use this energy the right way, it could buy us JUST ENOUGH TIME to build the clean-energy infrastructure we need for the not-so-distant future. Unfortunately, all I see is more suburban housing developments, plastic happy meal toys, and fingers covered with greasy cheese dust.
It is not HOW MUCH there is, but how much IT COSTS, and HOW MUCH production is available.

I read the story, and it points out that the costs are higher making it more expensive, and ALSO that it is NOT capable of any great production at this time.

You need to learn to read MORE than just the headline!!
its a lot of oil......about one years worth for the US

so energy independence? sorry, no, not till we build nuclear reactors to power all those electric cars!

Saudi was the platform from which NATO launched it's invasion of Iraq in 1991 if you remember. In fact, they offered. BP is a British company partnered with Russian interests (not an American company at all). No one has taken anything. These companies pay for the right to pump the oil. If you are mad at anyone then you should be mad at the Iraqis I guess. They are the ones who privatized and sold the leases.

  • Is it best to buy stock from Shell or BP or is there an exchange traded fund linked to the oil price?

There are quite a few etfs linked to oil. OIL is one but I think it should be avoided. VDE is another. It holds large U S oil company stocks. RYE is an equal weight energy fund. You get an equal share in multiple oil and energy companies. It unlike most is not capitalization weighted, an important distinction. IXC is a global energy fund. It is cap weighted. XOM is 18% of its holdings. DKA perhaps is closest to what you might desire. It is an international energy etf. Its largest holdings are Shell, BP, and Total accounting for 30% of its holdings. There are others also.Is it best to buy stock from Shell or BP or is there an exchange traded fund linked to the oil price?
You can buy oil directly in the market if you are interested in taking advantage of the oil price movement itself rather than the oil companies shares, Brent Crude and West Texas Crude being the two main markets. The easiest way of doing that is to trade it via a spreadbetting platform, that way you can have a smaller position size. The other advantage of doing that is any profit you make is tax free. Alternatively you can trade the actual market with lower spreads using CFD's - contracts for difference, which is essentially the same but marginally less risky (because of the lower spread between the buying and selling price). However then your profits are taxable. Here are the links to two platforms (you will find there are a lot more providers if you do a search for them)Is it best to buy stock from Shell or BP or is there an exchange traded fund linked to the oil price?
There are lots of ETFs linked to oil in various forms: CRUD, SOIL (short), a few BRENTs: 3 months ,6 months 12 months and a lot moor I expect.

I expect there are also Covered Warrants
    also uso

I happen to like BP - pays near 7% for a dividend, so you get paid to wait. Also has history of raising it, and paying most profits to share holders. Good luck to you
An oil ETF has the ticker symbol OIL. However, I can't vouch for how well this or any other oil-linked ETF will perform relative to oil itself, or relative to Shell or BP.

Did The British Govt do an Oil deal for BP with Libya?

IS this for real..they let the Lockerbie Bomber out for oil...Did The British Govt do an Oil deal for BP with Libya?
Well technically Scotland set him free on grounds of ';compassion'; because he has terminal cancer. I wonder why they feel he deserves this compared to other prisoners...it isn't exactly standard practice to reconsider someone's jail term because they are terminally ill, is it?(someone please correct me if I am wrong here). We don't yet know what the exact involvement of the Labour party was and we probably won't unless and until there is an inquiry into it. We do know that documents have been leaked with details of negotiations that went on between the British Labour party and Libyan government about 2 years ago on sending Libyan prisoners back home in exchange for some oil deal and Scotland apparently knew that the Lockerbie bomber was on that list. We also know that Scotland consulted Labour before taking the decision and they did not object. I think that there are too many suspicious facts for there not to have been some kind of deal going on behind the curtains. What exactly I don't know. I just feel that Brit. gov is inextricably linked to this decision and I also think that it would not have been taken without Labour's support or at least input. It is interesting also that Gordon Brown took 5 days or whatever to even comment and when he finally did...after so much time all he said was that Labour were not responsible for taking the decision. My best guess at the moment is that Labour realised that releasing this man would cause an uproar especially when it was revealed it was in exchange for oil, so they found ';another way around the task'; and got Scotland to release him on compassionate grounds so that one way or another Libya got what they were asking for.Did The British Govt do an Oil deal for BP with Libya?

Can anything be done to reduce the oil price or is it just going to get worse?Lebanon crisis. BP Alaska oil field closure. Hurricane season about to start. This is bad, right?
Well we could invade a couple more countries under various pretexts....

The real thing we need to do is start relying more on alternative forms of energy. Instead of wasting all our money on war, sucking up to oil rich nations, and importing oil we could instead come up with more efficient devices, or alternative forms of power. When fewer people are using oil it will make it cheaper, and free the U.S. from the oil companies and nations.Lebanon crisis. BP Alaska oil field closure. Hurricane season about to start. This is bad, right?
Yep. Bad until at least the US gets the oil industry out of their pockets so all the research on alternative forms of energy actually stands a chance of seeing the light of day.

Being from and living in FL, the gas prices are pretty far down on the list of worries in hurricanes though.
Bad for drivers wallets, people in the Middle East, and most of all the planet as a biosphere. The greedy bad people raking in oil revenue aren't going anywhere either. This is going to be a painful process of slow decline, yet fear not.

The end of days is nigh...or maybe we'll just keep working things out. I have seen entire towns that run solar and the technology is really in its infancy as far as efficiency. Just think, after you convert your house the roof will deflect the heat like the ice caps would have- so who needs glaciers-unless of course you lived near the ocean...then you are about knee deep is Coral.
Well you would have to get the greedy Basterds out of the oil companies before you would see any change.

  • Libs, How Will Hillary Tax Foreign Oil Companies Like BP, Shell, Lukoil?

Most of that ';huge'; profit that Hillary and other non-expert Liberals complain about comes from their operations outside of the Unite States.

So, basically, Hillary wants to tax Exxon on the money that they earned in the North Sea and Africa while BP, Shell, Total, etc. don't get nailed by liberals since they are not US based companies.

So,we can tax the US oil companies endlessly out of business. But, huge profits will still be made by foreign oil companies.Libs, How Will Hillary Tax Foreign Oil Companies Like BP, Shell, Lukoil?
They are called tariffs. It was the main source of government income until the 20th Century.

It's tax on foreign corporations that want to do business in the US.

If you want to play, you have to pay,Libs, How Will Hillary Tax Foreign Oil Companies Like BP, Shell, Lukoil?
While Hillary can use tariffs, the problem with that idea is that the host countries would file a complaint with the WTO. This could also lead to same host countries then putting tariffs on many of our exports thus causing a trade war.

Also, these same tariffs will passed through as part of the price, therefore guess who will actually paying it-the consumers.

When will liberals under stand the basic rule of economic. It is ';supply and demand';.

If you want a real life lesson in supply and demand, you only have to look at the former Soviet Union and Cuba. Why did people have to wait in lines to buy a pound of sausage? Simple, where was the motivation to produce more? There wasn't any as you could only sell it for what it cost you to make or less.

This basic rule applies to health care. If you remember the English comedian Benny Hill, on his program he was always making fun of the British socialized health care system. To take this even farther, why do many doctors in the US along the Canadian border have many Canadian patients if the system is so wonderful. Think about it without trying to polarizing it with your political outlook.
Why do Hillary and her type always want to punish success!!

What is arachis oil bp used for?

Arachis oil is the oil extracted from peanuts. It is used in the form of an enema to treat faecal impaction. This severe form of constipation is common in the elderly and bedridden, and consists of immovable, compressed and hardened faeces in the bowel or rectum. Arachis oil acts by lubricating and softening the faeces, and promoting bowel movement. What is arachis oil bp used for?

arachis oil is manufactured in France, is nearly colourless, and almost free from taste; it has been used for adulterating lard oil and olive oil. Arachis oil saponifies slowly, but yields a firm white soap with very little odour.

it can also be used for giving enemas with paraldehyde in them to babies who are fitting.
yes, as the others have said, it is used as an enema. But after two hours you might need to follow that oil enema with an ordinary (eg phosphate) enema. The oil one softens , the other one helps removal......
Peanut oil is an organic oil derived from peanuts, noted to have the slight aroma and taste of its parent legume. It is often used in Southeast Asian cuisine much as olive oil is used in the Mediterranean. Peanut oil is appreciated for its high smoke point relative to many other cooking oils. Its major component fatty acids are palmitic acid (8-14%), oleic acid (36-67%), and linoleic acid (14-34%). The oil also contains some 6-8% (total) of arachidic acid, arachidonic acid, behenic acid, lignoceric acid and other fatty acids.

Peanut oil was used as the original source of fuel for the diesel engine.

Peanut oil is most commonly used when baking foods, particularly french fries.

Commercial peanut oil will not cause an allergic reaction because the allergen is a protein, not a fat; however, organic and cold pressed oils will.

If Macasskill let the Lockerbie bomber out to help a BP oil deal, will the UK not Scotland be blamed?

Everyone has jumped up and down in the USA blaming Scotland for the mass murderer's release, based on the word of one doctor, contrary to the opinion of others, that he had less than three months to live, even talked of boycotting Scottish made goods, etc. As I suspected all along, it was London, not Edinburgh behind this, Scotland has all the oil it needs in the North Sea, they don't need Libya's oil. Whatever the subject, it's always either to the credit of the UK or the shame of Scotland. Scotland has been the scapegoat long enough, it is time credit was given where due for Macasskill's decision. Perhaps everyday past his three months he lives, one doctor should sit in his jail cell, as an example to any other physician willing to lie to get mass murderers out of prison. This is one reason capital punishment is looked favorable upon, not for vengeance, but to make sure killers never plot from within or set foot outside prison wallls again, to protect the public and the witnesses that help solve the crimes. Knowing killers are going to only be put away five, ten or twenty years makes people less reluctant to testify against them. Back to the point, will public opinion stop condemning Scotland and put the blame on the UK, London, for the bomber's release? And should they build a new memorial in Lockerbie, that looks like an oil rig?If Macasskill let the Lockerbie bomber out to help a BP oil deal, will the UK not Scotland be blamed?
    @consrgreat

Which IRA Prisoners would these be, they were all released anyway under the terms of the 'Good Friday Agreement', and as well as fund raising for the IRA, the Americans didn't extradite a single IRA Terrorist despite repeated pleas from Britain.

If you are not happy, then I suggest you withdraw your military bases from Britain in protest, in fact we can give you a hand packing like the French did when they told you to get out in the 1960's.If Macasskill let the Lockerbie bomber out to help a BP oil deal, will the UK not Scotland be blamed?
Lets even the score and release the IRA terrorists we have in jail here....on grounds of compassion...
Well said. The cat was out of the bag when Gaddafi thanked the British government for the release.
First off - this guy is almost dead.

Second off - I read there were SERIOUS questions about his conviction - and there was a very real chance he was going to be let go anyway due to his conviction being overturned. So the government released him on these ';humanitarian'; grounds to avoid the embarrassment of admitting they had the wrong guy in jail all these years.

I have hight bp. Doctor told me to start takining fish oil caps but didn't say how much.?

I am a 59yr old woman who has controlled high bloodpressure. My doctor said I should start taking fish oil caps. but he didn't say what dosage or how many times a day. I bought some yesterday. They are 1000mg each and it says to take 3x a day. Is that dosage too high? Or would taking it 2x a day be better?I have hight bp. Doctor told me to start takining fish oil caps but didn't say how much.?
Overdosing on omega-3 is a REALLY hard thing to do, so don't worry about that. In fact, for some conditions fairly high doses are necessary for the benefits of fish oil to kick in at all. Most doctors would say that you should be getting 1000mg of EPA and DHA each (they're the source of fish oil's potency) daily, so see how much your capsules contain and figure it out from there. Good luck!I have hight bp. Doctor told me to start takining fish oil caps but didn't say how much.?
Humans typically need about 2000-3000 mg of omega-3 fats (such as those in the fish oil) a day to achieve the full nutritive effect. Two or three pills a day should be fine for a woman of your age. You could also eat walnuts or incorporate flax seeds or flax seed powder into things if you want to get a little extra. There aren't many serious consequences to taking high doses of omega-3 fat except that your blood will be less likely to clot. If your blood pressure is high then this probably wouldn't be such a terrible effect.

Another more commonly recommended routine for high blood pressure is the DASH diet, which basically recommends more fruits and vegetables and to limit your daily intake of sodium to 1400 mg. The blood pressure-stabilizing effects of this diet are fairly well documented but you've probably tried a low-sodium diet by now. If not, check out the link.
i am currently taking omega 3 fish oil pills and at first i only took 1 a day and saw results but i read the bottle and it said take one or two pills so i started taking two and its been better i feel a lot better and much more fresher in the morning. after seeing how good they were i took 3 a day and the next day i started break out in a rash. i thought it was just me getting bit by a bug or something but i tried it a gain and the same thing happened. but the doctor gave you good advice because oil pills are good for lowering blood pressure and overall health. but i advise you not to take to many
Fish oil will not hurt you.

    3x is probably just fine.

    : )
It will tell you on the bottle how much to take

What do youthink about the BP's investment to extract oil from the Canadian wilderness?

http://environment.independent.co.uk/art鈥?/a>What do youthink about the BP's investment to extract oil from the Canadian wilderness?
Canada should extract only enough oil for its own requirements leaving the rest in the ground for future generations. Developing the oil sands is a good idea, but the pace and scale should be geared to match Canadian domestic requirements. The BP project can wait for 40 years. The oil will be worth more in real terms in the future than now. Canada's economy does not need oil exports to maintain a current trade surplus. What do youthink about the BP's investment to extract oil from the Canadian wilderness?
The Gitxsan and the Tse Keh Nay peoples will fight it tooth and nail. Northgate Minerals Corporation lost a permit to expand the Kemess North copper and gold deposit because of the Gitxsan. BP plans to start a project that is 500 times larger. It will never happen.
Just once, I would like to see a piece of wilderness that isn't sacred or pristine or out of bounds. The countries of Canada and the United States would be third world if we didn't effectively utilize our natural resources. BP pretends to be green but in fact is just another oil company.
Now that gas prices are starting to creep up, it makes economic sense for BP to extract oil from Canadian tar sands.

In order for them to do this, however, they will need to modify their refineries to handle this dirtier crude. Will sulfur dioxide emissions increase substantially in the U.S. due to these refinery changes?

If so, the people living around these U.S. refineries may be hardest hit.

BP Makes ';Giant'; Oil Find in Gulf of Mexico, Hoax?

Due to the increasing concern over 'peak oil' it is logical to assume that this discovery is nothing more than a lie in order to quell the increasing tension peak oil and the energy crisis presents.

It seems too good to be true, convenient almost.

Seeing as how the layperson would not be able to identify whether or not this discovery actually exists, it would be very easy for the government to manufacture this lie to maintain order.

If we invested in wind, solar, and other alternative forms of power we wouldn't have to be slaves to oil anymore.BP Makes ';Giant'; Oil Find in Gulf of Mexico, Hoax?
I'm not an oil expert but recently Brazil has made a huge offshore oil discovery. The Chinese are drilling off Cuba in international waters and within two hundred miles of our coastline. Mexico has found oil off shore. Seems to me that BP shouldn't have any trouble locating oil. The only people seeming to have trouble finding oil is the U.S. and only because the stupid greenies in this country don't want us to drill offshore because they can't enjoy the view with oil rigs that they can't see on the horizon. There is no alternative fuel to oil right now or even in the near future. We need domestic oil and if we continue on our path of not drilling for oil, we will increasingly be beholden to people who hate us for our energy. But then, I suppose that's what libs want anyway.
I think that somehow the world energy cartel will parlay this into a justification on why oil prices will skyrocket again. They'll claim that the sudden potential supply will cause major producers to pull back on their output. Then the prices will be so high and profits will be so huge that there will be no reason to release the new oil into the market. And there it will sit...in the imaginations of the rich oil men.
I don't why else all these countries are spending billions looking and drilling for oil in the gulf, maybe because of the decades of instability in the middle east where we get our oil from now?

Besides, we currently have the largest oil reserve in the form of shale on the planet right now and it is only a matter of time when the middle east oil wells go dry, we'll start extracting oil from our shales and where will we be then?
big oil in shales of west and canada, also kentucky thru ohio into new york. directional drilling technology will get it. hopefully new technology in drilling equipment will bring new oil finds and lower prices, i'm just a water well driller
I heard about a natural gas find around the Cuban coast and expected natural gas around the Florida coast.

    But that is about it.
It is a hoax that we are running out of oil.

    BP Oil Co. advertisements?

Have you seen the new BP Oil ads on tv? It's a cartoonish one with four babies driving a car. So what they are trying to promote is gasoline use not only by those of legal driving age, but they want to see infants behind the wheel, using up that ole precious gas. You know darn good and well babies will see this commercial, and while their parents are sleeping late on a Saturday morning, sneak out and pick up their little toddler friends and just have a hayday on the road. Thanks EVER so much BP for not only creating more of a shortage of oil, but potentially endangering the lives of people on the road even more.BP Oil Co. advertisements?

Yes.. all sheeple must use more gas, especially babies. You must continue to use an obsolete and inefficient propulsion technology, because EV technology just isn't mature enough (we insist, really) or cheap enough (because we buy up as many patents as we can to keep the prices high) for electric vehicles to be manufactured or used. But really we'd lose so much more money because electric motors are so darn reliable and cars would hardly use anywhere near as much oil products, etc. etc. Besides, babies can't drive electric vehicles. Electricity is too dangerous for them, among some other things or something.

It certainly doesn't hurt! Her environmental track record in Alaska is horrifying. In addition to pushing for offshore drilling and drilling in ANWAR, Ms. Palin is currently involved in allowing the Alaskan Dept of Fish and Game to shoot wolves from airplanes. This is 100% illegal- the Federal Airborne Hunting Act was passed in 1972.

If the US has to open the oil reserves - Will BP (their fault anyway) replenish them for free?

With the gas prices sky-rocketing and the latest BP Oil incident, there are rumors floating around that the good old USA may have to open up the National Oil Reserve to help relieve the burden that the lack of preventative maintenance by BP Oil has caused.

My question comes from the notion that if the oil company is at fault, will they replenish the suppy that is deleted for FREE? I believe that they should be held accountable. God knows they have the money to perform maintenance at needed levels. If the US has to open the oil reserves - Will BP (their fault anyway) replenish them for free?
NO...If the US releases oil from our reserves, the oil companies that get the oil have to PAY us for it at fair market value. It is not a gift...it is a cushion in the supply. I personally dont think they will need to open the reserves. Saudi Arabia and Mexico have already said that they will increase production to make up for any shortfall due to this disruption. However, if you live on the west coast where the Alaskan oil is used...there may be a temporary supply disruption to the refineries leading to a price increase short term on the west coast. If the US has to open the oil reserves - Will BP (their fault anyway) replenish them for free?
The gas companies ain't going to do anything for free, they will only do what helps them.
The oil companies are not legally obliged to supply us with oil. They find it and sell it. Where were the government inspectors who should have known about the condition of the pipeline? I dont think BP is under any obligation to pay for the oil that they dont supply to the refineries.
no we as taxpayers will pay an inflated price because the

    government will buy the oil.

Crude oil is probably not the only asset BP has control over which would add to their bottom line. Also, as you may have noticed, the price of crude oil is rising by the barrell every day. It's not like we don't have oil, whether or not they can legal drill for it is another story (such as the debate over Alaskan drilling rights), it's all about supply and demand. We demand it so they supply it, making a nice little profit on the way.
My dear, Exxon Mobil made 36 Billion so they'er all making it!!!!
Supply and demand. as something gets more scarce the price of it goes up. That is a little simplistic for oil since there is a group in the middle east called OPEC that regulates how much oil it will sell and that way they can regulate the prices. This could come back to bite them too though, if they hold back too much oil for too long we will get fed up with expensive gas and look for other methods, sort of like what people are doing now with riding motorcycles more and driving hybrids to save gas. I think that there is more of a shortage in oil than anyone says and in just a few years we will have to find an entirely different fuel (ethanol, Hydrogen, etc.) when that happens the big oil companies will either change also or go out of business, don't plan on them making 19Billion $ then.

PS: jm what world do you live in that a 7.5% profit margin is in line with expectations?? All I know is hospitals and even the best hospitals barely make 5% margin and that is really the best, so 7.5% is still really high.
I'm not surprised. The prices these days are way higher than 2 or 3 summers ago. Those huge profit margins in return drive up their net profits globally. Let's hope inflation is not going to happen too fast and too sudden which may affect the our costs of living.
Prbably GW's fault, somehow. BP stands for ';British'; Petroleum , I believe?

Refiners buy crude from all over the world. Petrol companies buy the finished product. The British , who don't have oil, sell gasoline at BP stations all over the US.
Add them all together and its hundreds of Billions. Its SUPPLY AND DEMAND.... b u l l s h i t . THEY ARE CROOKS ....I could stop it and you could too but the American motorist won't help. So good enough.
They charge an arm and a leg and everyone still pays for it! That's how!
Huh? We are told we don't have BP oil/gas? Sorry, but thanks for the points.

Why do you think that once Standard & BP get their hands on Iraq oil it will be any cheaper?

Now that they have us paying around $3 or $4 a gallon why do you assume they will lower the cost?

You can't possibly think they will lower their profit margin now that they have all of us willingly paying this much!?

This is to make them richer, not us!Why do you think that once Standard %26amp; BP get their hands on Iraq oil it will be any cheaper?
It won't be. Iraq was not about taking the oil, it was about CONTROLLING the oil....Why do you think that once Standard %26amp; BP get their hands on Iraq oil it will be any cheaper?
I never said it would lower the cost. But the oil in Iraq will keep oil in enough supply that the price won't skyrocket.
Because Bush's friends will be so happy that they will throw money from helicopters to pay for gas.

Why did Sarah Palin accept campaign contributions from oil and gas lobbyists for Exxon, BP, Shell and Chevron?

BP even sponsored her inaugural ball.

John McCain says that Palin fought the oil companies. Why did Sarah Palin accept campaign contributions from oil and gas lobbyists for Exxon, BP, Shell and Chevron?
Why wouldn't she? She raised the taxes on oil companies in Alaska through the roof. So what? Do you think they stop donating to political figures because of that? And you think she shouldn't accept them? Huh?

Sorry, your ';question'; makes no sense. Why did Sarah Palin accept campaign contributions from oil and gas lobbyists for Exxon, BP, Shell and Chevron?
Big oil runs Alaska so there is no where else the get contributions. However once in power she double crossed them and got an excess profit tax passed on oil and used the proceeds to give every man woman and child in Alaska a check for $1200 dollar to help the cope with the high gas prices. If the McCain/Palin ticket would advocate this for the whole country I would vote for them, but if they did the Republicans would not.
The same reason she accepted the money for her Bridges to Nowhere and now tries to tell everyone that she never wanted them (but kept all the the money, of course)...its money and that's all that is important to her and her Party.

(Also, these neo-cons keep trying to fabricate more BS by saying Obama accepted money from Freddie and Fannie...yes, he did, but it was from their EMPLOYEES and they were ';personal'; contributions...they did not come from Fannie or Freddie funds through the CEOs and CFOs...however, that IS where McCain got his campaign funds from Freddie and Fannie. They simply have selective memory, I guess.)
Because she is a politician and that's what they do.... you can get more money from oil corporations than anyone.

I'm researching BP for marketing and need to find out who BP's suppliers are. Do they rely solely on one company or several?

ThanksWho do BP (British Petroleum) buy their oil from?
BP is engaged in exploration and production of oil rather than buying it from someone to resell. They may buy it from other producers if they have a refinery that requires more oil than is available from their nearby production. In such cases they would buy from the most convenient source which could be Exxon, Shell, Conoco-Phillips, Chevron or some small producer.

A large part of the oil is produced by Joint Venture wells which means that several oil companies own a percentage of the working interest in the wells. One company becomes the operator of the well and provides the manpower and buys all supplies and equipment. The other working interest owners either sell their share of production to the operator or take it and market or refine it themselves. The operator bills other owners for their share of the expenses and equipment purchases plus an 'overhead' charge to cover some smaller purchases that are not accounted for in the type expenses billed specifically.Who do BP (British Petroleum) buy their oil from?
They probably rely on various oil companies, depending on where oil is abundant and who can offer the best price. There are loads as competition is so high.

You should write to BP and tell them you are researching them for a project - they might send you some helpful info (they probably won't give too much away).

My father is a commercial diver - he works on oil rigs for the companies that pump the oil out of the ground and he works for various different companies who supply it to BP/SHELL/OILEXCO/Exxon etc.
To the best of my knowledge BP find oil fields and drill for their own oil. Possibly they buy as well from independent drilling companies?

BP just found a huge oil deposit 180 miles off our shore. Will Obama give it away for free?

How many more jobs will the democrats send overseas in the oil industry and not allow us to explore and drill our own reserves?

Don't you just laugh at these idiots every time they say they want to free us of dependence on Middle Eastern oil?BP just found a huge oil deposit 180 miles off our shore. Will Obama give it away for free?
DEMOCRATS??? Buddy, where have YOU been for the last 8 years?? The Bush administration let more jobs go overseas than any other administration in history. But, those weren't oil drilling jobs....those were College level IT and professional jobs that we need here and are never coming back.BP just found a huge oil deposit 180 miles off our shore. Will Obama give it away for free?
It's not Obama's to give away %26gt;In a free-market economy the oil rightfully belongs to those who take the risks to bring it to market and who rightfully have the choice of selling it on the open market to the highest bidder ....regardless of nationality

If you want that oil to be ';ours '; then I suggest that you become a socialist and encourage the government to nationalize the oil companies.
Oh, now he has control over foreign oil companies? You did know that BP stands for BRITISH PETROLEUM, didn't you?

As to Democrats sending jobs overseas, outsourcing began in the 1950's and is neither a Democrat nor Republican policy. It is a money policy. Ask Whirlpool whether they are Democrats are not. Just last week, they closed their Indiana plant to move the factory to Mexico. Do you think they did it on a political conviction or are they looking for cheap labor?
Re-read your first sentence again. British Petroluem has a large stake in the find, but not absolute. Since ';Obama'; does not own BP, how would be be able to give it away.

I swear you people get more and more stupid with your retarded accusations. I take that back, retarded folks wouldn't make such lame accusations.

Democrats and environmentalists will do all in their power to prevent a single barrel of that oil from reaching dry land in the US.
I love how multi-national corporations get to sell us 'our' oil and keep all the profits.
    Perhaps Obama will expropriate BP.
    Its not Obama's to give.
That's what give it away means, free.
I really hope we use it to OUR advantage
Stupid is as stupid does. have we all not realized that yet?

If an oil company such as BP had to incur a large windfall tax on high profits what would they do?

I mean, what actions would they take if this was the case?

thanksIf an oil company such as BP had to incur a large windfall tax on high profits what would they do?
They have had to in the past - they paid it.If an oil company such as BP had to incur a large windfall tax on high profits what would they do?
Firstly it's not unrealistic to expect a company like BP to make A LOT of money as it is one of the biggest companies in the world in terms of assets. If you had $200bn in the bank you would expect a decent amount of interest on it even at today's rates.

In the case of BP as most of their operations are based outside the UK they would probably move their head office and domicile to a more tax friendly regimes, taking a decent amount of jobs with them.

If the law said they had to pay they would have to pay though, but it's probably got more long-term negatives than positives.

Utilities companies have no alternative but to pay the tax because their operations are tied to the UK and the location of their networks.
This is actually what is currently happening, the government raises tax in lots of different ways with the oil companies.

First there is the usual PAYE tax on the salaries paid to the staff.

Second they tax any new exploration work carried out at 47%.

Third they tax the crude oil when it lands in the UK.

Fourth they tax the equipment and process involved processing the oil.

Last but not least they tax the fuel at point of sale.

    Lots of tax.

    Ja.
    They would pay it.

Many of the utility companies had to pay windfall taxes when the Labour government first came into power in 1997.

Any good quality oil if fine as long as you change it regularly. How often do you do it? Depends on the type of driving you do, but about every 4,000 miles (6500 km) is good for normal driving. Is BP engine oil good for my Mercedes benz 190E 2.6? What is the service interval for ths car?
For my leak free cars I use only Mobil 1 synthetic, Fram heavy duty filters and change the oil every 4,500 miles (depending on how lazy/broke I am at the moment). Otherwise any cheap oil is fine, just change it at 3,500 miles. One of the main reasons to change the oil is because it gets dirty, so frequency is arguably more important than quality of oil.Is BP engine oil good for my Mercedes benz 190E 2.6? Why would fish oil and vinegar help lower bp?

Both of them are blood thinners and reduce your cholesterol levels and this in turn lowers your blood pressure. Why would fish oil and vinegar help lower bp?
I don't know about lowering BP, but fish oil lowers cholesterol. Why would fish oil and vinegar help lower bp?
Fish oil may act as a ';blood thinner'; of sorts if it is high in omega-3. As far as vinegar, i can't say there is any science or proof behind it but that's not to say there isn't. People seem to love to say apple cider vinegar cures all the world of all problems. Unfortunately it's mostly old wives tales. Exercise, weightloss, and the DASH diet is the way to go for lowering blood pressure without the use of drugs.
Fish oil is loaded in Omega 3 which is a heart protection. It's supposed to lower your chances of heart attack and stress on the heart to function. When your heart is less stressed, your blood pressure will normally drop.

I have drank vinegar when I had a bad headache and my pressure was up and the pain stopped; I didn't take my bp again but I believe it did go down. However, when cooking certain foods as pork, I add vinegar and I notice that my BP does not rise. People I have discussed this with --- one nurse -- said that the vinegar on foods is even worse but I stick with it when I prepare ham, ribs, etc and I notice I do not get headaches --- maybe because my pressure did not rise --- all headaches are not symptoms of hypertension ---- sometimes there are no symptoms at all of hypertension that's why it's called the silent killer.

What you can do is take your bp readings before you drink the vinegar and give it some time to act --- probably a few hours and see.

I also know from experience that oatmeal on a regular basis for a month lowers your cholesterol and so does olive oil.

Fresh garlic cloves boiled lowers hypertension quickly and it incorporated in the diet lowers hypertension. However, if you are on anti-hypertensive medication and/or blood thinners (anti-coagulants) talk to your doctor first.

Before you do any herbals, home remedies or alternative medications, please, please do research about how it interacts with your medications.
The very nature of Fish Oil is that it helps with cardiovascular health due to the EPA (one of the Omega-3 fatty acids) content. It can help with cholesterol... and if there is less cholesterol in your veins and arteries, your blood won't have to push as hard to get around, which can make for lower blood pressure. It can also thin out the blood, which makes it even easier for the blood to flow around.

As far as the vinegar, Apple Cider Vinegar is just a good cleanser. Cleansers can help with things throughout the whole body in low amounts because when your body is cleaner, it can work more efficiently. But if it does lower your blood pressure, it would be a minimal difference.

If you're looking for something natural to help with blood pressure, there are quite a few options. Aside from diet and exercise, there are some herbs that are very beneficial for Blood Pressure. The most popular ones are Fish Oil, Hawthorn Berries, L-Arginine, C12 Peptides (from milk protein casein), Bonito Peptides, and Garlic.

I would not be surprised at all if a deal was done though. Fact is these days, oil is worth a lot more than morals.

I want to work for one of these big oil companies, but all I have is a BA in philosophy and no work experience. How can I get a job with Exxon Mobile, Saudi Aramco, Shell Oil or BP?
I worked for Exxon a long time ago and it was a great company to work for. The benefits were fantastic and the pay was higher that other employers in the area. I applied for a job there twice and never heard anything. Then I met someone who was a supervisor there. He gave me an application that was to be forwarded to a designated manager. I had the job within a week. Nepotism helped.

Most jobs with these companies require technical or accounting degrees. You may want to contact the human resources departments at each company and ask about openings they may have. Good luck.
Learn to type 50 wpm or better. At least you can get in as a secretary. Large corporations like that do have benefits. But be warned; it will take you several years to climb up until you are well-paid. You are competing against secretaries who are already in the field so you will have to start in an entry-level position as a clerk.

Did u hear about BP Oils giant discovery of oil in the Gulf of Mexico today?

over 600,000 barrels a day this new well will produce. so much for the we are running out of oil argument. if you tree huggers would just let the oil companies drill we would have finds like this every monthDid u hear about BP Oils giant discovery of oil in the Gulf of Mexico today?
Yep. I don't know if the production will equal that, but it's LOTS of oil... we keep finding it faster than we can burn it. It's amazing, really.Did u hear about BP Oils giant discovery of oil in the Gulf of Mexico today?
600,000/ day. And we use 20,000,000/ day in the US. It doesn't quite equal the amount of wells that are running dry. Even the oil companies don't believe there are many major finds left out there. There just isn't the right geology available that hasn't already been drilled.
Where do I start? 10 years before the first barrel hits the surface.

You really believe any one well would produce 600000 b/d? There are a great many more wellbores that have to be drilled and the first one cost $250 million alone.

Now, as the price goes up, more oil becomes available because it costs significntly more to extract. Oil will never run out but it will become over-priced as alternatives mature. (in about 3-4 decades)

The current day alternatives are never going to support transportaion at a cost comparable to regular gasoline even at $5/10 gallon.
