Help me plz- for anyone who knows about speedway, BP, Marathon, and oil?

for a school project i need to figure out wat the 87, 89, 91, 93 means as pertains to gas ( like oil gas, not fart gas for you weirdos) like whats the difference, and Y ARE THOSE NUMBERS USED INSTEAD OF LIKE 13, 17, 65, AND UMM 7985 (*1)? i also need your source so i can count it for my paper, cuz otherwise in my sources cited, it would be like : bobthebuilder56, jomamma, blehblehbleh9, miatia, princess, and wikipedia. ( all those names were made up completely, so if thats your name thing, than dont be mad at me if it is your name!) so my teacher would be perty confuzzled, and thats it

(*1) this star denotes the fact that the stuff is in UPPERCASE because its the most important q, and this star also denotes that i've always wanted to denote something w/ a star XD

gracias para su cooperacion!

This one is the best but make sure you read all 7 of the articles by clicking next. This tells you all about gasoline.

The numbers on the gas pumps are not years! dumbas* They are octane ratings! Different vehicles require different octanes!Help me plz- for anyone who knows about speedway, BP, Marathon, and oil?
All I know is that the numbers on the gas pumps are the years hun... couldn't tell ya much more then that.
those numbers are the ''octane'' level..the ''octane'' is the anti-knock level in fuel oil...the higher the ''octane'' the better the gas...be careful..some vehicles cant handle all octane levels...

check wikkapedia.com or enter ''octane'' on your web search..gives the chemical ingrediants...
