BP group wins Iraq oil contract

June 30, 2009

Iraq is hoping foreign firms will raise production levels in an industry that has suffered from neglect [EPA]

An oil consortium led by British Petroleum has won a contract to develop a large oil field in Iraq, as dozens of international firms compete for the rights to the nation's oil and gas reserves.

BP, along with China's CNPC, secured the contract for the Rumaila oil field on Tuesday, the largest of Iraq's six oil fields on offer to foreign and state-owned companies.

The contract race is the first opportunity for global energy giants to gain a hold in the country since the Baath party nationalised the Iraq Petroleum Company in 1972, seven years before former president Saddam Hussein took power.

how many troops did China contribute to the 'war';?

or perhaps it is because the US barreled into Iraq assuming that they would take over the Iraqi oil ~~ and now see that they will not.

We shal see, but surely the Iraqi government has considered that the US led the war for 6 years, but in the process, destroyed much of their infrastructure, as well as causing the taking of hundreds of thousands of Iraqi innocents.

Actually it looks as if China will be the overall winner concerning further contracts.Dateline Iraq. So BP and China CNPC receive lucrative oil contracts. Do you think Iraqi oil Minstry should ?
We never thought we would take over their oil, we never tried to.

We could have done it, that was never the intention.

At this point I don't give a rat's @_ _ what they do with it.
