Why have the Chinese and BP been given the Iraqi oil?

BP - a long time investor in Iraq, the primary oil company in the county before Saddam nationalised it all, so they've experience. In addition, they're the 2nd or 3rd largest oil major in the world, hence, it's logical. And they're British - we didn't invade for nothing, you know.

China - again, massive corp. with a desire to expand, and probably, due to state subsidies for expansion, a v. cheap quote. In addition, Iraqi officials will be desperate for Chinese investment. Why have the Chinese and BP been given the Iraqi oil?
Est.54Trillion barrels of oil in Iraq, the carving up was done before the first bullet was fired. The reason we are in Afghanistan is because the Taliban who we with America armed and trained to fight the Russians, want a bigger cut for protecting the pipeline through there!!

The consumption of 17Billion barrels of Oil won't take long at allWhy have the Chinese and BP been given the Iraqi oil?
As someone with shares in BP, I think it's a splendid idea.

But it does seem rather odd that it should not stay under the control of the Iraqi government. Perhaps they think they can get more for it, or it will cause them less trouble, if they hand it over to private companies. They can tax them (and so us) through the roof for it then.
It's not much different then the US giving 40% of the oil out of the Alaskan pipeline to Japan.
It was sold to the highest bidder.

Perhaps a foregone conclusion.
BP is British, so its a good thing, because that means we have more petrol! Petrol is nice.
Victori , adferte praedam!
